Traditional art is getting closer and closer to technology. Museums, world galleries and major auction houses have joined the NFT movement. And today we are pleased to announce the launch of NFT sales created by the State Hermitage Museum. The State Hermitage is one of the greatest art museums in the world. The museum has a collection of about three million works of art and monuments of world culture. It includes paintings, graphics, sculptures and objects of applied art, archaeological finds and numismatic material.

As part of the project “Your Token is kept in the Hermitage,” the museum has released a limited edition NFT series with digital copies of world masterpieces from its collection. The series presented includes digital reproductions of the following works of art: “Madonna Litta” by Leonardo da Vinci, “Judith” by Giorgione, “Lilac Bush” by Vincent Van Gogh, “Composition VI” by Vasily Kandinsky, “Garden Corner at the Montgeron” by Claude Monet.

All of the tokenized digital works were created in two copies: one of them will be kept at the Hermitage, and the other will be presented on the Binance NFT marketplace. All digital copies are personally signed by Mikhail Piotrovsky, General Director of the State Hermitage, who certified the authenticity of each work from the limited edition by affixing the date and exact time of their signature, thus giving them absolute uniqueness, immortalized in the blockchain. The location of the signature itself — the halls of the Hermitage — is also anchored in the metadata.

The starting price for each digital work is $10,000 BUSD. All proceeds from the sale go to the State Hermitage Museum. The winners of the auction will also receive an NFT video of the moment when museum director Mikhail Piotrovsky signs the copy they purchased.

“The Hermitage is a conservative innovator — a conservative museum that uses the latest technology. This includes our project “Your token kept at the Hermitage” and all our work with the NFT. We are expanding digital opportunities to get to know the Hermitage collections, its halls and buildings. These are ways that emphasize, on the one hand, the democracy of the museum and, on the other hand, the accessibility of the luxury of visiting it,” said Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum. “But we are not going to solve financial issues with tokens, we have no market expectations related to their issue. We want to see how this form will be perceived. NFT is a philosophy, it’s an aesthetic of possession. Digital copies of works of art fill the Internet, where essentially everybody has access to them, but NFT is a sense of ownership, and in our case, a sense of belonging to the Great Museum.”

“We are witnessing a historic moment — one of the world’s largest museums is entering the NFT marketplace. The Binance NFT Marketplace has become the nexus of the world of art and technology, and we are deeply honored,” said Helen High, head of Binance NFT.

The auction opens August 31 at 15:00 Moscow time and will run until September 7 at 15:00 (Moscow time). The auction will be open to any Binance user. NFT-marketplace Binance will use the same account system as Binance.com.
